Jakarta offers to its guests an incredible number of unique tourist attractions. Everywhere you go there are interesting things to explore, do and enjoy. The combination of various tourist attractions for both young and old make Jakarta no ordinary tourist destination. Jakarta is the cultural center of Indonesia and is home to numerous museums, galleries, monuments, theme parks and golf courses. You will want to extend your stay to enjoy all there is to see and do in Jakarta.
For those visiting Jakarta for the first time, taking a city tour is an excellent way to get a crash course on local history and traditions. The Saturday or Sunday edition of local newspapers is a good place to find out what is currently going on in the city. There are two leading English newspapers in Jakarta: The Jakarta Post and JakartaGlobe that usually carry listings for ongoing and upcoming art functions, cultural activities, dance performances and kid’s amusement in their weekend editions.
Sunda Kelapa Port, the Maritime Museum and museums in Fatahillah Park are not to be missed and are a good starting place for deciding your itinerary, as there are plenty of things to see in a relatively small area of “Old Jakarta”. Ancol Dreamland– dubbed the largest amusement complex in Southeast Asia– is home to many attractions and should be on your must do list, especially if you have kids with you. And a trip to Jakarta would not be complete without a visit to the famous Taman Mini Indonesia and Bogor Botanical Garden.
We have done our best to list the many attractions available in and around this vibrant and lively city. Check out the list below for our recommendations.
